New guide to life-threatening conditions provides critical tool in fight for survival and recovery: relevant information

"When Life is in Jeopardy" by Stephen Garrett Marcus, M.D., offers information about the 60 most common life-threatening illnesses, injuries and complications

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. / MMD Newswire / June 1, 2011 - - "The fight for life is always an option," asserts Stephen Garrett Marcus, M.D., in "When Life is in Jeopardy: How Doctors Detect and Treat the Most Common Life-Threatening Conditions" (ISBN 1453876162). "When Life is in Jeopardy" provides a wide range of information about the life-threatening illnesses, injuries and complications that are responsible for the great majority of deaths in the United States.

The book is divided into four sections. The first section, "Life-Threatening Diseases," explores the 26 most serious life-threatening diseases including the most common cancers, stroke, heart disease, cirrhosis and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). The second section, "Life-Threatening Injuries," explains how emergency physicians and surgeons evaluate and treat chest, abdominal and head trauma. The third section, "Life-Threatening Complications," discusses 31 dangerous or disabling complications that can occur as a direct result of a serious disease or injury or as a side effect of medical or surgical treatments. The book's fourth and last section describes how medical researchers test new treatments, and how a person can identify and enroll in a clinical trial.

"As a physician working at the highest levels of medical research, I am frequently asked by friends and colleagues for advice regarding serious medical situations," says Marcus. "It became apparent to me that there is a lack of reliable organized information for non-medical professionals, as well as gaps in the information readily available to people providing healthcare services, investing in the healthcare industry or to journalists or writers. Realizing this, I decided to create a book which would give the most comprehensive and useful information available to anyone interested in the detection and treatment of life-threatening conditions."

"When Life is in Jeopardy: How Doctors Detect and Treat the Most Common Life-Threatening Conditions" is available for sale online at Amazon.com and other sales channels.
